vs Wix
The Honest Wix Alternative for
Australian Businesses (2026)
Let's start with the honest bit. Wix is genuinely good for some businesses — and if that's you, this page is going to tell you to stay on Wix. It's a real product with real strengths. But for a lot of Australian SMBs, Wix slowly becomes a trap: monthly fees that never stop, PageSpeed scores that tank your SEO, a drag-and-drop editor that makes it physically impossible to ship a site as good as a tradie with proper trust badges. Here's the honest comparison.

Common questions
Frequently asked
When is Wix actually the right choice?
Wix is a reasonable choice if: (1) you want total self-service control over every pixel, (2) your business genuinely doesn't need fast load times or deep SEO, (3) you don't mind paying monthly forever in exchange for zero up-front cost, and (4) you'd rather manage it yourself than pay a developer to set it up. A side-hustle that isn't trying to beat anyone in Google results is a legitimate Wix use case. A real business competing for local search isn't.
Is Wix really that slow?
Yes and no. Wix sites load every drag-and-drop widget's JavaScript — even the ones you're not using. That averages out to PageSpeed scores in the 40–70 range on mobile, where most of your customers are. Google has been explicit since 2021 that page speed is a ranking factor; a Wix site will be outranked by a faster competitor even if the Wix site is 'better' on paper. We hit 95+ every build because we don't ship code you're not using.
But I edit my Wix site myself. Won't a custom site lock me out?
No. Every site we build comes with an admin panel where you edit text, swap images, add blog posts, update prices — no code required. The difference: Wix's editor is drag-and-drop down to the pixel (and that's why it's slow); ours is structured content editing (and that's why it's fast). You gain some precision; you give up nothing in practice.
I've already got a Wix site. Can you migrate it?
Yes. We'd pull your content, images, blog posts, and product data (if any), redesign the visuals, and rebuild it on your own stack. Migration is usually part of the fixed quote. Your domain stays yours — we just repoint it once the new site is ready.
Won't I need to pay you every time I want a change?
For content changes — text, images, prices, blog posts, service descriptions — no. You edit those yourself. For structural changes (new page type, new feature, visual redesign) — yes, because that's actually a developer's job. The admin panel is designed to handle 95% of what you'd reasonably want to change.
What does 'fully custom' actually mean vs a Wix template?
Wix has ~900 templates. They're good-looking but they're templates — and everyone else is using them too. A competitor using the same template looks identical to you. Our sites are built bespoke to your brand: your colours, your typography, your layout. It doesn't take longer in 2026 because the tooling is that much better than it was a decade ago.
How long does the build take?
Typical Wix-alternative builds: 2–4 weeks for a 5-page business website, 4–6 weeks for a site with more complex needs (bookings, payments, custom forms). We quote the timeline up front with the price.
Is the hosting more expensive than Wix?
Much cheaper. Wix Business Basic is $44/month on the standard plan. Self-hosting what we build — Cloudflare Pages plus a domain — typically runs $15–$25/month total. You'll save $250–$3,000 per year on hosting, which is often most of the project cost back in year one.
